Why use IPTV on a Smart TV?
Modern Smart TVs have built-in app stores and powerful processors — you can stream thousands of live channels and movies directly on your TV without a Firestick or Android box. Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Android TV all support dedicated IPTV player apps that connect to your Tv Buddy subscription.
Recommended IPTV apps by platform
Samsung Smart TV (Tizen)
- IPTV Smarters Pro — available in Samsung App Store on 2018+ models; supports Xtream Codes and M3U
- Smart IPTV (SS IPTV) — paid one-time app; excellent EPG and playlist support
- IBO Player — activation-code based; good for users who prefer a simple interface
LG Smart TV (webOS)
- IPTV Smarters Pro — in LG Content Store on supported models
- SS IPTV — sideload via USB if not in store; widely used on LG
- DuplexPlay — activation required; stable playback on webOS
Android TV / Google TV
- TiviMate — best-in-class UI, EPG, recording (Premium); install from Play Store or sideload
- IPTV Smarters Pro — free, easy setup, good for beginners
- OTT Navigator — lightweight alternative with strong EPG
Tip: If your TV's app store doesn't list IPTV Smarters, use a Firestick or Android box instead — see our Firestick guide for the easiest sideload method.
Setup with IPTV Smarters (step-by-step)
This works on Samsung, LG, Android TV, and most platforms where Smarters is available:
- Subscribe to Tv Buddy and receive your Xtream Codes login (server URL, username, password) or M3U link.
- Open your TV's app store and search for IPTV Smarters Pro. Install it.
- Launch the app and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Enter your credentials exactly as provided — watch for trailing spaces in username/password.
- Wait for channels to load (may take 30–60 seconds on first launch).
- Go to Settings → EPG and enable the electronic program guide if available.
- Pin favourite channels by long-pressing the remote OK button.
Samsung-specific tips
- Update Tizen OS to the latest version (Settings → Support → Software Update)
- Use a wired Ethernet connection — Samsung Wi-Fi chips can struggle with high-bitrate 4K streams
- Disable Motion Smoothing for sports to reduce input lag perception
- If Smarters crashes, clear app cache: Settings → Apps → IPTV Smarters → Clear Cache
LG webOS tips
- Enable Quick Start+ off to free RAM for streaming apps
- SS IPTV requires uploading your M3U via their web portal — we send the link after purchase
- For 4K playback, confirm your LG model supports HEVC — see our 4K guide
Network & performance
Smart TV Wi-Fi is convenient but often slower than Ethernet. For buffer-free streaming:
- Connect via Ethernet cable to your router when possible
- Ensure at least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K
- Place the router within 5 metres of the TV if using Wi-Fi; use 5 GHz band
- Read our full buffering fix guide if streams stutter
